Job Purpose: The Loss Prevention Officer’s primary responsibility is the cost effective collection of accounts due. This includes responsibilities such as investigating overdue accounts and communicating with members to bring delinquent accounts to a current status; collection of loans through asset recovery permitted within the law and under established policies and procedures. Communicate effectively with members, consumer lenders and management with regards to accounts / status and recommendations regarding delinquency management and collection. Maintain accurate records of collection activity and reporting requirements as deemed required under SCU policy.

Specific Responsibilities:
Under general supervision maintain timely, cost effective and confidential collection services that include the following:
• Collect and compile information to assess repayment potential and determine best course of action and to establish loan allowance provision.
• Record and report on cost effective collection activities and correspondence.
• Provide recommendations and work with members, SCU lenders and management to achieve resolution on overdue accounts and mitigating losses for the Credit Union.
• Take collection action as required, which may include but is not limited to the following: demands for payment, fraud investigation, case prosecutions, statement of claims, asset recovery, vehicle repossession and sale, file write-off recommendations and administrative processing.
• Prepare necessary application and documentation for changes to accounts.
• Participate in the development and implementation of collection protocol and support achievement of collection targets and delinquency rates.

Qualifications:
• Grade 12 plus one year of formal education and four to six years job related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated negotiation, analytical and reasoning, prioritization, organization, time management, planning and follow-up skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office.
• Advanced understanding of interest rates and how the resulting support and/or impact Credit Union operations.
• Detailed knowledge of legislation; policies and procedures and foreclosure processing, including but not limited to the following: Privacy Act, Builders Lien Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, Consumer Protection Act, Mortgage Act and Interest Act.
