Steinbach Credit Union Board of Directors
We, the members of the SCU Board of Directors, take great pride and honour in representing the interests of our members by delivering sound governance for our credit union. We appreciate and respect the trust you’ve placed in us as your Board of Directors and believe that we are Stronger Together.
Reg has served on the Steinbach Credit Union Board since 2001. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board. Reg also serves as the President of the Penner Farm Service Group of companies, as President of South East Pallet and Wood, and as the Vice President of South East Logging. Reg has also served on the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce, the executive of the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Course, and as Chairman of Steinbach Mennonite Church. Reg, his wife Ingrid, his daughter Kara and son-in-law Tim, and granddaughters Kailyn and Hannah all reside in the Steinbach area.
Position: 1st Vice-Chair
Russ Fast founded his own private equity firm in 1989 and has worked in various capacities, both as an entrepreneur and business executive, since that time. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Steinbach Credit Union as well as Chair of Credit Union Central of Manitoba. With 28 billion dollars in assets, CUCM provides liquidity, treasury, banking and payments along with advocacy at the Provincial and Federal levels. Russ also Chairs the Credential Financial Inc. Board, a 33 billion dollar co-operative organization providing wealth management services to Credit Union members across Canada.
Russ is a former board member of Credit Union Central of Canada. In 2015 He was invited to be the Executive in Residence at the CUES-Rotman Director training program. Russ is the former Chair of the CUMIS Group of Companies where he led the foreign-owned insurance company through a successful sale to a Canadian partnership between Central 1 and The Co-operators in 2009. In the past, Russ has served on numerous boards both profit and non-profit as well as many community development committees.
Russ is a highly experienced executive with a proven track record of success. He is known for ensuring sound financial oversight and strategic organizational leadership.
Henry Van de Velde
Position: 2nd Vice-Chair
Henry is currently a joint-owner of Hylife in La Broquerie. Henry, with his wife Penny and their three sons, moved to Steinbach 20 years ago from Western Manitoba, where they were dairy farmers. He has served as the Treasurer of the Barley Council of Canada, as an account manager at the Royal Bank of Canada and with the Farm Credit Corporation. Henry has a Degree in Agriculture and training in Market Appraisals and Corporate Finance. Henry joined the SCU Board in 2011, has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program and has served on Governance, Investment, Audit, Personnel and Executive committees at the SCU.
Doris Martens has served on the SCU Board of Directors since 2003. She has chaired the Audit, Governance, and Member Relations committees, and has served on the Personnel, Investment, and Nominations committees. Early in her career, Doris enjoyed serving members through various roles as an SCU employee. While raising their four sons, Doris and her late husband, Gary, owned and operated a successful purebred dairy and beef farm in the Grunthal area. In recent years, Doris has completed University Certificates in Financial Services, Accounting, and Administration, and has earned the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA) designation. She is currently employed as the Controller at E.G. Penner Building Centres in Steinbach.
Robert currently is the VP of Investments at Steve’s Livestock Transport. He has worked at Steinbach Credit Union for over 26 years, much of that time as part of the management team. Robert has served on various SCU board committees since he was elected in 2011, and presently chairs the Audit committee and serves as a member of the Nominating committee. Robert has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program. Robert has served on numerous boards including the Steinbach Christian High School and is the current Board Chair of a Bible Camp. Robert and his wife Judy have three children and reside in the Steinbach area.
Rob has worked 38 years in the transportation industry with his current role as Director of Linehaul Operations for Gardewine, focusing on customer service and efficiencies. Rob has assisted HRDC in the development of education programs for the transportation industry. He is certified in Logistic and has his CITT designation. Rob has served as Moderator for his church and has served on the following SCU committees: Audit, Governance, Member Relations, Nominating and currently sits on the Personnel committee. Rob has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program and has successfully completed CUES 2015 Governance Leadership Institute earning the Certified Credit Union Director designation. Rob and his wife Shirley have three married adult children and four grandchildren, and they all reside in the greater Winnipeg area.
Maria Reimer is a partner at MLT Aikins LLP, one of Western Canada’s largest law firms. She has a corporate-commercial practice, with a focus on financial services, commercial real property and aviation law. Maria is currently the Chair of the Governance Committee of the Steinbach Credit Union, and also serves on the Personnel Committee. She recently obtained her Certified Credit Union Director Designation at the CUES 2017 Governance Leadership Institute (run by faculty from the Rotman School of Management). Maria has strong ties to the Steinbach community; her grandfather P.J. Reimer was one of the founding members of the Steinbach Credit Union and she is active in her family’s business, Reimer Agencies Ltd. In her spare time, Maria enjoys competing in hunter/jumper equestrian competitions and spending time outdoors at her acreage in the RM of Springfield with her husband, John.
Amanda has served on the Steinbach Credit Union Board of Directors since 2016. She completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program during her first term on the board and she is currently the Chair of the Audit Committee. Amanda is a Certified Professional Accountant, having obtained her Certified General Accountant designation in 2009. She is currently the Director of Finance at HyLife Ltd., an international pork company with the head office located in LaBroquerie. Her role at HyLife includes managing the Accounting department, coordinating audits, completing financial statements and working closely with financial institutions regarding all needed compliance information. Amanda has served on the Jake Epp Library board, she was the Finance Co-Chair for the 2016 Manitoba Games and she has held various other volunteer roles including managing and coaching multiple sports teams. She lives in Steinbach with her husband Jason and their two children.
Bruce Penner is currently the Executive Director and Ownership Partner of Momentum Healthware, a Winnipeg IT company which provides health software to governments nationally and internationally. He has founded and acquired several software companies and served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer in private and public corporations. Bruce’s education includes an Honours Degree in Computer Science, as well as various certificates in Information Technology and Accounting. Bruce joined the SCU Board of Directors in 2017 where he offers his diverse IT experience and serves on the Audit and Governance Committees with a focus on IT governance. Bruce and his wife Kim currently reside in Steinbach. They are active within their local Steinbach community, and are active investors in the Winnipeg business community.
