Reg Penner, Chairman

Reg Penner

Position: Chairman

Reg has served on the Steinbach Credit Union Board since 2001. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board. Reg is the CEO for the newly merged company, Penner Farm Service, Horizon and Paradigm Agri Solutions. He is also President of South East Pallet and Wood and the Vice President of South East Logging. Reg has served on the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce, on the executive of the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Course and as Chairman of Steinbach Mennonite Church. Reg, his wife Ingrid, his daughter Kara and son-in-law Tim, and granddaughters Kailyn and Hannah all reside in the Steinbach area. 

Russ Fast, 1st Vice-Chair

Position: 1st Vice-Chair

Russ Fast founded his own private equity firm in 1989 and has worked in various capacities, both as an entrepreneur and business executive, since that time. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Steinbach Credit Union as well as Chair of Credit Union Central of Manitoba. With 24 billion dollars in assets, CUCM provides liquidity, treasury, banking and payments along with advocacy at the Provincial and Federal levels. Russ also Chairs the Credential Financial Inc. Board, a 22 billion dollar co-operative organization providing wealth management services to Credit Union members across Canada.

He also sits on the board of Credit Union Central of Canada and is Chair of Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation. In 2015 Russ was invited to be the Executive in Residence at the CUES-Rotman Director training program. Russ is the former Chair of the CUMIS Group of Companies where he led the foreign-owned insurance company through a successful sale to a Canadian partnership between Central 1 and The Co-operators in 2009. In the past, Russ has served on numerous boards both profit and non-profit as well as many community development committees.

Russ is a highly experienced executive with a proven track record of success. He is known for ensuring sound financial oversight and strategic organizational leadership.

Henry Van de Velde, 2nd Vice-Chair

Position: 2nd Vice-Chair

Henry is currently a joint-owner of Hylife in La Broquerie.  Henry, with his wife Penny and their three sons, moved to Steinbach 20 years ago from Western Manitoba, where they were dairy farmers. He has served as the Treasurer of the Barley Council of Canada, as an account manager at the Royal Bank of Canada and with the Farm Credit Corporation. Henry has a Degree in Agriculture and training in Market Appraisals and Corporate Finance. Henry joined the SCU Board in 2011, has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program and has served on Governance, Investment, Audit, Personnel and Executive committees at the SCU.

Doris Martens, Director

Position: Director

Doris and her husband Gary live in the Grunthal area where they owned and operated their family dairy and beef farm for over 30 years. Her financial interest began as a young adult when she worked at SCU in the Member Services Department. She has been on the SCU Board of Directors since 2003 and currently serves on the Audit committee and chairs the Governance committee. She has also served on the Personnel, Member Relations and Investment committees.  Doris is a Certified General Accountant and is employed as the Controller at E.G. Penner Building Centres. Doris and Gary enjoy spending much of their free time with their four adult sons and their families.

Robert Dueck, Director

Position: Director

Robert currently is the VP of Investments at Steve’s Livestock Transport. He has worked at Steinbach Credit Union for over 26 years, much of that time as part of the management team. Robert has served on various SCU board committees since he was elected in 2011, and presently chairs the Audit committee and serves as a member of the Nominating committee. Robert has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program. Robert has served on numerous boards including the Steinbach Christian High School and is the current Board Chair of a Bible Camp. Robert and his wife Judy have three children and reside in the Steinbach area.

Rob has worked 35 years in the transportation industry with his current role as Director of Linehaul Operations for Gardewine. Rob has assisted HRDC in the development of education programs for the transportation industry. He is certified in Logistic and has his CITT designation. Rob has served as Moderator for his church and currently chairs SCU's Member Relations committee and serves on the Personnel and Audit committees. On behalf of MBCM Rob participates on the council for CMU. Rob has completed all required levels of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program and has successfully completed CUES 2015 Governance Leadership Institute earning the Certified Credit Union Director designation. Rob and his wife Shirley have three adult children and families, and they all reside in the greater Winnipeg area.

Maria Reimer, Director

Maria Reimer

Position: Director

Maria is a corporate-commercial lawyer practising with Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP in Winnipeg.  Her practise focuses on financial services, commercial real property and aviation law. Maria has strong ties to the Steinbach community; her grandfather P.J. Reimer was one of the founding members of the Steinbach Credit Union and she is active in her family’s business, Reimer Agencies Ltd. Maria was pleased to be elected to the SCU Board of Directors in March of 2015, and is currently serving on the Governance Committee. In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time outdoors at her acreage in the RM of Springfield with her husband John and her horses.

Amanda Peters, Director

Amanda Peters

Position: Director

Amanda is a professional accountant, having obtained her Bachelor of Applied Business Administration from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2008 and her Certified General Accountant designation in 2009. She is currently the Director of Finance, Accounting & Compliance at HyLife Ltd. in LaBroquerie. Her role at HyLife includes managing the accounting department, coordinating audits, completing financial statements and working closely with financial institutions regarding all needed compliance information. Amanda is committed to serving the community and has served on several boards, including currently acting as the Finance Co-Chair for the 2016 MB Games. She lives in Steinbach with her husband Jason and their two children. In her free time, Amanda enjoys sports and spending time with friends and family.
